Hi everyone! Hope you all had a good weekend, I know I did! It’s because I started my first day of volunteering with the Garden State German Shepherd Rescue!
It was a great experience and a great day for the dogs!
The dogs who were there were Freya, Diva Gianna, Trooper the Celebrity, Gunny, Gabby Girl and alumni dogs Ellie, Gypsy, Jerry, Sarge, and Mia.
The weather was nice, there were so many dogs out and about waiting for their forever homes, donations were made, and the people were friendly.
I got to walk around Gianna, an 8 year old Shepherd, and Freya, a young pup who just got adopted! Of course I snuck in a lot of kisses, hugs, and belly rubs too!
I didn’t get to take many pictures because I wanted my main focus to be on the event but if you visit GSGSR’s Facebook page, you will see all of the beautiful dogs who were in attendance.
Also, yesterday marked the 1st day of Be Kind to Animals Week!
There are a number of things we can do to help the animals who need it most:
- Join the Advocacy Brigade
Sign up for the ASPCA Advocacy Brigade to receive important alerts when they need your help lobbying for laws against animal cruelty.
- Help Fight Puppy Mills
Most pet store puppies come from puppy mills. Take the pledge that you’ll never shop in a store that sells puppies—even if you’re just buying food or toys. This simple action will help put puppy mills out of business for good!
- Show Your Virtual Support
Dedicate your Facebook status, Tweet or blog post to a homeless animal. And if you haven’t already, join the ASPCA on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Google+ and Twitter to keep track of breaking animal welfare news!
- Call Your Local Shelter
Grab your cell phone and call your local animal shelter. From walking dogs to organizing fundraising events, shelters across the country could really use the help—even if you can’t make a long-term commitment.
I purchased a shirt from the Humane Society, am a once a month donor to the ASPCA, and started volunteering! It is very rewarding and does a lot a lot a lot of good!
