This morning I got on the train, opened my phone, went on Facebook, and suddenly got that stomach drop feeling you get when on a roller coaster.
I saw this photo
along with the heartbreaking caption that gave the bunny community horrible news of Sheldon’s sudden passing.
I belong to several groups on Facebook dedicated to rabbit owners so we can share pictures, ask questions, and give advice. I also have a big community on Instagram, where I first started following Penny (Sheldon’s bun wife) and Sheldon.
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read that Sheldon passed away. He was only 1 year old and very happy and healthy.
Sheldon was a Continental Giant. A very gentle giant at that.
His owners awoke in the middle of a night to a gurgling sound coming from Sheldon. They suspected that he was choking on either fur or hay and it was too deeply lodged in his throat to get it out.
They did absolutely everything they could, but unfortunately, he took his final breath in his parent’s arms.
His mama, papa, and wife, Penny are devastated with the loss of Sheldon, as was everyone else who knew him online.
Penny and Sheldon’s Facebook page is filled with fantastic photos along with clever captions and I will miss seeing Sheldon grace the page with his enormous ears, beautiful golden fur, and mesmerizing eyes.
I am truly saddened by this news and it has indeed put me in a somber mood all day.
He went way too soon and it was such an unfortunate accident.
It makes me worry about leaving my 2 babies home even when I’m at work.
Everyone give your pet, whether it be a bunny, cat, dog, hamster, or lizard, some extra loving tonight, and say a prayer for Sheldon and his family.
We miss you.
